Cumberland pupils plant sensory garden

20 Yr 8 pupils that took part in the Jamie's Farm trips have been planning the Sensory Garden and won funding to buy tools and plants. They consulted Mr Hughes, our gardening expert, and also helped plant the Canning Town Recreation Ground Sensory Garden in preparation. A full range of plants and ornaments were bought that would appeal to all the senses and also attract insects and wildlife like butterflies and birds.

5 Yr 10 pupils have been completing a Horticulture course with the Peacock Centre and helped the Yr 8s prepare, design and plant the four raised beds. Their expertise was invaluable and they each led a team of four or five Yr 8s successfully. Together the Yr 10s, Yr 8s and pupils from the Autistic Unit will maintain the garden each week with a planned rota of weeding, watering, pruning and growing. An official opening with the Head Teacher and Jamie's Farm will be photographed by the local press shortly.
