  • Congratulations to Abdi Hassan Year 8

Congratulations to Abdi Hassan Year 8
    30th April 2014

During the Easter Holidays, Abdi Hassan from Year 8 took part in an LTA Grade 5 Tennis Tournament at Shooters Hill. I am thrilled to say that he won the tournament, winning four matches on the day. As a result of his wins, his rating will improve from 10.1 to 9.2 (ratings are the LTA’s guide to players ability, with the lower the rating, the better the player. For comparison, Andy Murray is a 1.1). Well done Abdi! Mr Kruse Greenhouse Tennis Coach Read More

    Imperial War Museum- Day 4 & 5
    25th April 2014

Twenty four Year 8 pupils visited the Imperial War Museum on Monday 7th April and Tuesday 8th April in the Easter holidays. They showed full commitment to the New Perspectives project they have been involved with by attending the final two days of the five day project, giving up the first two days of their Easter holidays. On these final two days of the project the Year 8 pupils worked with professional animators from Chocolate Films to create their short animation films based on archival research they'd conducted with the help of museum staff earlier on in the project. They spent the two days filming and editing their animations, demonstrating and developing a multitude of skills including effective communication, teamwork and resilience. They worked from their storyboards they had created during day 3 of the project and overcame a number of unexpected hurdles that arose during the course of the two days - including one group having to deal with plasticine which was too tough to mould. They resolved this issue by showing great initiative and heating up the plasticine using a portable radiator! The short animation films they have created from scratch, will be premièred at Cumberland School later on in the summer term - at an event to which parents, museum staff and fellow pupils will be invited. News of the premier will be shared on the school website in the future - so watch this space! The History department are very proud of the commitment and effort shown by the twenty-four Year 8 pupils through their participation in this project and are pleased that Cumberland School pupils have been given another opportunity to commemorate the centenary of the First World War. Cumberland School welcomes museum professionals and animators from Chocolate Films
    3rd April 2014

Cumberland School was pleased to welcome museum professionals from the Imperial War Museum and animators from Chocolate Films into school on Wednesday 2nd April, as they continued to work with 24 Year 8 pupils on the third day of the New Perspectives project. The day was spent with pupils developing their ideas for their own animation films through storyboarding and researching their chosen topics in greater detail to ensure historical accuracy is maintained in their animation films. The pupils worked really well on this third day of the project, and are now set to create the animation films on days four and five at the Imperial War Museum on Mon 7th April and Tues 8th April. The day was also interesting as Cumberland School welcomed back one of our ex-pupils called Daniel, who left in 2004 and is now working as an animator with Chocolate Films. He was impressed with the new building – as he attended Cumberland when we were at the old site. Look out for an interview with him in the next edition of the Cumberland Chronicle. Read More
