    Imperial War Museum
    28th March 2014

Twenty four Year 8 pupils visited the Imperial War Museum again for the second day of the New Perspectives project on Wednesday 26th March. They spent the day working with museum professionals - researching more into the First World War in Africa. The students, divided into four groups of 6, selected a particular piece of archive evidence which they had then prepared a pitch about - delivering it to a curator from the Museum. They had to persuade him to include their selected archival material in the new World War One exhibitions that will be on display once the Imperial War Museum re-opens after refurbishment in summer 2014. Pupils also spent time with animators from Chocolate Films, a media company; starting to think about ideas for their own animation films that they will create in the remaining three days of the project. The short animation films pupils will create will be based on the archival material pupils have selected and researched themselves. Some of the animation films may even be included in the permanent First World War galleries once the Imperial War Museum is reopened. Our pupils were very excited to meet and work with one of the animators from Chocolate Films in particular called Daniel, who is an ex-Cumberland School pupil having left in 2004. It was an enjoyable day and the pupils worked extremely hard. The History department is very proud of their hard work and commitment to the project. Read More
