Support & Advice
The emphasis this year is to increase the percentage of students achieving at least five A*-C GCSE grades including English and Maths and reduce the attainment gap between groups of pupils. With this in mind, a number of initiatives have been put in place:
- 55 C/D Borderline students have been targeted for a mentoring programme.
- A Study Skills Day helps pupils understand their learning styles and experiment with different techniques for effective revision for examinations.
- In the spring term, the mentored pupils will attend a residential weekend at Fairplay House to further embed study and revision techniques.
- An extensive programme of Study Support is available for all pupils in all subjects throughout the year. Some sessions are on offer at lunchtimes or after school, whereas others are on offer at weekends or in the school holidays.
The aim at year 11 is to provide a broad, balanced and relevant curriculum that offers continuity and coherence and secures high standards for all learners. The majority of pupils engage with the main curriculum offer. Some external provision in place for identified pupils; for example, the school works in partnership with Peacock Gym so that a small group of pupils are able to spend two days a week on an extended work experience.
Through the Gifted and Talented programme, opportunities are provided for the most able pupils and less able pupils are supported through the Foundation Learning programme.
The school works in partnership with the Newham Work Experience Team and a large number of other local providers to enable all pupils to engage with a two week work experience.
Opportunities are available for all pupils to be actively involved in the life of the school. A number of these develop leadership skills, including Prefects; Sports Leaders, Literacy Leaders, Numeracy Leaders, ICT Leaders, Enterprise Leaders, MFL Leaders, the Year 11 School Council and the Y11 Prom Organisation Committee.
