    Who Inspires You?

We now begin the second half of the school year. My assemblies this week have been looking at people who can inspire us. People of all ages from around the world who have overcome many things to achieve their ambitions. I left the pupils with this image - all too often we give up too easily. My message this week has been - never give up.

    Never Give Up

    2012 Journey of Achievement

Today we break up for half term returning to school on Monday 20th February.

On Wednesday 8th February we were very pleased to launch the 'Be Inspired' booklets. The booklet which will be given to all KS2 & KS3 pupils will provide an opportunity to record all their achievements in the Olympic Year. Between now and the Olympic and Paralympic Games there will many ways for young people to be inspired by the men and women we will see performing at the Olympics next summer. The 'Be Inspired' booklet has lots of ideas and challenges including: have a go at sport, be creative, take part in an event, archive your potential, volunteer in your community, get trained and into a job. Many local schools attended this event and there were a number of great performances. We were also pleased to welcome the Mayor , Sir Robin Wales.

    Science Challenge

For the past month a group of pupils have been working very hard on a science project ‘The Big Science Challenge’ which is run by the British Council and funded by Rolls Royce.  The project is an international competition in which it encourages international collaboration between schools in the UK and the Middle East.  Interviews took place and 10 pupils from year 7-11 were chosen to participate in the project.  The project is to design an energy efficient, innovative and creative solution to a real water shortage problem either in the local area, UK or in the Middle East. The main team included: Petros Akin-Nibosun (Yr 11), Yousef El-Tawil (Yr 11), Trieu Minh Ho (Yr10), Oluwatobi Olaitan (Yr10) and Ishrat Jahan (Yr10). Assistants to the project included were: Emily Cornuaud (Yr7), Alina Shevchenko (Yr10), Ansar Choudhury (Yr7), Lucky Abat (Yr7) and Nazat Hossain (Yr10).   The pupils have been liaising on a weekly basis via skype, vlog, blogs, and emails to a school in Qatar.  The pupils communicated with the pupils in Qatar in Arabic and English and through the process of this project, a new relationship has been built.  The pupils would like to say a BIG THANK YOU to Ms McFadden and Mrs Sahota! This challenge was demanding yet they have pulled through! if they win they are awarded with a trip to Dubai! I hope they will invite their Head teacher.
