Beat the Head
Today we break up for half term. After the holiday Mr Green and I will be organising a sports evening for Year 7 pupils and their parents. A flyer was sent home with the pupils today, with more information.
The latest edition of the Chronicle was also sent home today, highlighting some of the headlines from this half term. It is easy to forget how many exciting activities our pupils are able to participate in.
On Thursday evening the music department organised a concert to celebrate Black History Month, congratulations to all involved.

Come dine with me
I was very pleased to have lunch with our newly elected School Council, this week. I took the opportunity to explain how the School Council and I can work together, including helping to appoint new teachers to the school, during the year.

I was also invited to a coffee morning organised by Mr Webb's ASDAN Group. During the morning many staff popped in for tea or coffee and of course a very welcome chocolate biscuit.

On a personal note, later this term, I will be joining the Governing Body of New Vic. I am very pleased to be taking up this appointment representing the Head teachers of Newham. Cumberland has a very strong link with New Vic, many of our pupils transfer there after year 11 and go on to achieve excellent results.

Cumberland Welcomes Year 6
This week we welcomed hundreds of visitors to the school as Year 6 pupils and their families came to look around as they began the process of choosing their secondary school, ready for next September. The pupils and their parents were very complimentary about what they saw and heard. They were particularly impressed with the Cumberland Pupils who gave guided tours and also the staff that they talked to during the evening. I wish all Year 6 pupils well as they make this difficult choice.

Congratulations to: Danni Birch, Tarique Gervais Edwards and Kyron Roberts who recently completed the LIFE (Local Intervention Fire Education) Course. During their 'passing out' ceremony the boys demonstrated the skills they learnt during their intensive five day Fire & Rescue Service experience.
