Our school

Welcome

As The Cumberland School’s Headteacher I am extremely proud to lead a school community which is both ambitious for, and supportive of, the pupils it serves. Our vision statement, ‘Determined, ambitious learners’, embodies our belief that our success is dependent upon all stakeholders within our school community - pupils, staff, parents and Governors – displaying the qualities of determination and ambition and so developing as independent and successful learners. We are an ambitious and determined school, keen to improve on and exceed previous success and we are proud to serve our rich, diverse and exciting community.

Our school has the kind of green space, and facilities rarely found in inner city London schools, which allows pupils the space to develop, learn and grow. An ethos of aspiration and support pervades all we do. The Cumberland School educates the whole child and the skills of resilience, collaboration, and independence are developed and nurtured within all of our pupils. Pupils making excellent progress in all areas of their development, both academic and social, lies at the heart of our vision. This is achieved through a focus on academic excellence and challenge in the classroom, as well as a true commitment to offering our young people the broadest range of extra curricula opportunities, both inside and outside of school.

Staff at The Cumberland School work in close partnership with families and the wider community to achieve the best for our pupils. The school has always enjoyed a good reputation within the community but we are not complacent. All staff at Cumberland are committed to putting our pupils first, and we will continue to share our successes with you and reflect on where we can improve, to ensure that our pupils have the best opportunities and outcomes. Cumberland recognises the importance of ensuring that our pupils achieve both examination success and that they acquire the necessary skills and understanding to be successful, happy and responsible adults.

We hope that our website allows you to see a little of the ambition, determination, and creativity that our pupils and staff work so hard to achieve. Please do get in touch with the school if you have any questions which our website fails to answer.
