Tuesday 29th March. More Tennis Success!! On the back of the school’s most successful Tennis season, Greenhouse Tennis Head Coach Gary Kruse was presented with an Outstanding Achievement award at the recent Essex Tennis AGM. Essex Tennis Executive Officer Lynn O’Brien said “At Essex Tennis we are always pleased to be able to award individuals who go above and beyond their remit and give added value to their tennis community. Gary Kruse is such an individual and his work at The Cumberland School inspired the Essex Awards Committee to create a new “Outstanding Achievement Award” category in their annual award programme. Gary was nominated by Kelly Montgomery who praised his work in introducing tennis to a wide variety of pupils who have not had the opportunity to play the game before, and building on this success to create a thriving community club with players now competing both for the school and in external competitions.”

A selection of year 11 boys from GCSE PE have been learning the ropes at Mile End climbing wall. They are on a 12 week course and assessment which will gain them a grade towards their practical grade score. The instructors there were very impressed with our pupils and said they “were a pleasure to work with”. Well done boys.

Well done to the girls in year 9 who were picked to be sports leaders at the mini Olympics event for primary schools in the borough. 12 primary schools attended the event hosted by SSP’s at The Cumberland School. Our leaders were fantastic role models to the young people of Newham.

8th October 2015

Well done to the year 7 Rugby team who played their first tournament in the East London Schools Championship. We battled hard with great discipline and sportsmanship throughout the tournament against Eastlea, Langdon, and Abbs Cross but narrowly missed out to All Saints who were a great team and won the tournament. All boys pictured played including Captain William Doga and Player of the tournament Alfie Slater who played with grit and determination.
